My Off-Broadway debut with The Gayest Christmas Pageant Ever! at the Actors Playhouse. The last stage production to be in that theater before it closed. I played one of the wise men and also a slightly off kilter actor. At one rehearsal, when the actor playing the small role of Santa Claus did not show up, I improvised and took on a Santa hand puppet prop from offstage, and did his lines through that. The writer/director liked it so much, he rewrote the part to be an added personality for the actor that he couldn't control, with his nasty side coming out through the Santa puppet!
